Priorites

It happened before a week. The week started on a high note. I had to go as a speaker in one of the prominent MNC where I started my career. I was thrilled. I was waiting for the opportunity to unfold in my life. I immediately said Yes and acknowledged the request. There was another prominent MNC which I promised to be there for the Women's day program. Both programs collided on the same date.

As planned, I completed one in the morning and heading back to home. While on the way, I received a phone call from my sister that my mother was not keeping well and she has to be taken to the hospital immediately. I was stuck for a moment. On the same evening, I had prepared to speak about the importance of women. Halfway, I was confused. What should I speak for Women's day program when my mother is sick and the fact that I was not taking care of her at that moment. I quit my thought process and called the program coordinator. I explained my situation and asked for any alternate arrangement. She stated that since there is one more speaker other than me, they can conduct the meeting with no chaos. I calmed down.

I never failed in my commitment to programs. It was the first time I said an excuse after committing the same. If I would have gone to the program, do you think I would have done justice to the session? Definitely No! Instead, I took a standpoint and went ahead to home. I got ready, rushed to my sister's home and took my mother to the hospital. I felt relieved. Even though I felt guilty for not presenting myself for the commitment, I was happy doing what was just for the moment. I realized right things at the right moment can bring a lot more value-add to our life and we need to be accountable for who we are at the end of the day.

Mindful Hours

One of the days, while I was writing my musings, a phone call came. I took the call curiously as it was from an unknown number.  It was my friend calling from an alternate number.  She immediately asked me, "I saw your blog. You are writing consistently every week. How is this possible. You have a family, home and children to take care. I am wondering how do you find time to do all these"?  I told her, "Yes dear, I understand, everything requires a lot of thinking and consumes time. But for the past few years, I am following a routine consistently. That is I don't have a TV connection at home".  She panicked and asked, " What? You don't have a TV at home?'. I said, "I have a TV, but with no connection".  Nobody watches TV at my home. This saves my time a little from distraction. She couldn't believe the fact that I am not using TV.

She disconnected the phone after talking for few hours.  I was introspecting the amount of free time we get when we don't spend hours in front of an idiot box. Not only TV but even using any social media sites as well. I could see children sitting in front of the magic charm for hours and hours and lose their thinking ability.  When your TV is OFF, you talk with the real person in the living room. It is sick to see people glued to the screen and talking to people. This attitude will not help to build relationships but will destroy the human emotions. I understand we can't stop disconnecting TV immediately, however, we can reduce the non-mindful hours. If you are spending 2 hours a day watching TV, probably that can be reduced to 1 hour and henceforth. Keep a chart and track use of your limits a day. Eventually, you will reach the goal of non-mindful hours.

What makes you stand and stare?

Life sometimes flows very fast. I just feel like catching up time every time. However, there are certain occasions in life where you don't need to rush but just observe, enjoy the moment, breathe and go on. One such moment happened in "Tame the stage" session(A public speaking course for Children) last week.

We had a session on "Gratitude" in the last week. I believe this attitude can be practiced to develop a holistic life.  We were discussing on all the various ways to express "Gratitude" to different people in our life.  We have a student who does not speak voluntarily in the class.  Her mother said the same when she came to the class first. Whenever I ask something, she speaks not otherwise. When this particular session was going on, she kept on narrating many instances from her life. I have blown away.

For each value, she had various examples from her life. The session kindled her spirit and she spoke about her core family members.  She was enthusiastic about the whole session.

I realized that each child is unique. We never know what kind of inputs make them express their feelings outside.  Once they realize their inner potential, the world is just an oyster for them to explore.

Overused Goodness

I respect my housemaid who comes regularly home.  She was working well for a while.  She took off for a couple of days after informing me. I didn't say anything. I granted her the leave. After few days she was coming on and off. I didn't say anything hoping that she will be regular with her work. It was one of the days I was waiting for her to come. I had so much of incomplete work. I was waiting for her arrival. It was 9 AM, then 10 AM, 11 AM and finally, it was 12 AM. I was curious and frustrated. I called one of my neighbor in the flat. My maid goes for her too. She replied me saying, "Oh, didn't she give you a call.  She called me in the morning around 6 AM and told me about her unavailability today".  I was shocked and irritated. I immediately called my maid's number and asked,  "Why you didn't inform me whereas you had the intention to call the other. At least you should have conveyed my neighbor to share the information with me".  My maid replied answers with a lot of excuses which made my tone raise a little higher than the usual and she understood the issue. Eventually, I lost few hours of my day. However, I realized if I don't convey the same to her, she would be repeating the same with me even though I gave her everything she asked for earlier.

I understand most of us comes across these situations in everyday life. I am not talking about only maids, but in life, you may be helping someone for a long time. They may consider your goodness for granted and just move off in life. I would say anytime in life our goodness should not be overused. If you are a person who is so good with everyone without analyzing about the others, the first thing is to be aware of yourself. The second is that if you are expecting something from someone make sure that you communicate long enough so that the other person will understand what you need and will not take it for granted.  When we don't follow what is required to make us fit, we may end up in a worse situation and regret later.

Life Values

We are always in alert mode these days by the happenings around us. Hope you all understood what I mean. The essence of all the problems is the level of understanding and the maturity level of people. As the mandatory values of life ignored from a young age, they grow up into insensible adulthood.  They act and talk the way they want and insist the same with the people surrounding them.

I believe before we force the children to be an expert in Maths and Science, it is even more important to teach them the values of sharing and caring others. Even before we make them Engineers and Doctors, they should know the real essence of sympathy and empathy.  It is mandatory that they are sensible to others.

I am happy that I took this process of teaching values in the "Tame the Stage" weekly session. Last week was one such week that I feel it is worthy of doing. I had a child in my class who was very young among the group.  Before joining the class, her mother asked, "Can she be part of the class"?  I replied her with a Yes. We discussed the essence of "Consistent Effort" and their benefits in the last session. While the session was going on, this little child raised her hand in the middle of the session and started talking all about it. She said, "My mother keeps on insisting me to put the laundry dresses in the right place.  Till date, I was not doing. I think I will do that from today". I was amazed and stood there as one happy teacher. It is not the ASSET exams or the Assessments which make them great, but the values which they adopt and carry from a young age make them a wholesome individual.

As in the class, we say, "I am a Superchamp. I will define my character right". By keeping saying and follow the right from a young age, we can make a remarkable difference. It is the duty of every parent to teach life values from the Beginning. Hope we all can work towards the same.

Appreciate

The Sun was shining brightly. I had a cool start from the morning. My phone was ringing. I answered the phone and realized that it was my client who asked me to visit him that day. I had to complete my set of work which was planned earlier and started heading towards the place. I took a bus as I love to observe and enjoy the nature. It was a long ride. The bus stopped at a junction. I had to walk a long way to the client location. I was feeling tired at the end.

When I reached the office, I was rather sleepy than excited. I climbed the stairs in a dull mood. I reached the main entrance. When I opened the door, there came a maid with full smiles. As soon as she saw me, she uttered the words that I am looking beautiful. Obviously, any women will like the comment and felt good. The meeting went well. I came back home with a lot of energy. All my laziness and dull aches had gone away.

This incident implies that if we can appreciate when we feel like doing so, do it immediately. I don't know the maid and doesn't know me either.  However, as soon as she felt like appreciating she did so. That explains her clean heart and how that one appreciation transformed me in an instant. As soon as we find good, don't forget to appreciate. This quality can transform and benefit both the persons, the receiver and the giver. In the process of making someone happy, your happiness will be doubled. It explains the simple law of life, when you give more you will receive more
